    Kunitz was awarded the the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry in 1959, the Bollingen Prize for Poetry in 1987, and the National Book Award for Poetry in 1995. He was Consultant in Poetry to the Library of Congress from 1974 to 1976 and was reappointed as Poet Laureate of the United States in 2000.
